Reviewing the Timed Writing

We spent the period today reviewing the benchmark timed essay from 10/19. Students took a few notes and then had a written assignment based on their own writing. These were turned in at the end of class, but some students may have needed to finish them at home.

Wrapping Up Q1 & the Narrative

Today students had the entire period to complete and revise their personal narratives. They are due this evening.

More Presentations & More Writing Time

After presenting their project two more times to two more groups, students had forty minutes or so to work on their narratives. Drafts should be ready for revision tomorrow. This may require homework.

Presentations and Writing Time

We began the period with symbol presentations. These will continue tomorrow. Students had the second half of the period to work on their narratives. Everything they need for those is at PS Unified Classroom (login instructions below). Narratives need to be complete and revised by Friday.

Work Time

Students had the entire period to work on their projects. Tomorrow, we'll take a break to work on the first quarter benchmark assessment. There will be a bit of time next week to finish up the project, but groups with a lot to do (or absent students) should do some work from home.

The Final Project Begins

After discussing yesterday's homework and the end of the novel a bit, we went over the expectations for the final project, students chose their own partners and then got started. Slides, handouts, models, and frames are at our class page at PS Unified Classroom.

Chapter 23

We began by talking about James Castle a bit, then read chapter 23 aloud. After that, students had time to do their DJ for 22 & 23, and we wrapped up the period with an exit ticket.

Ch. 20 & 21

After a quick quiz on chapter 19, we shared DJ entries and talked about chapter 19. Then we read chapter 20 aloud and students had the rest of the time to read and write silently. They should finish chapter 21 and their DJ (period 5 only) for HW.

Today we read and discussed chapter 18 as a class. Students had the rest of the period to finish chapter 19 and do their DJ.

After some careful DJ revision/writing, students had some time to read chapter 15 and start their DJ HW. Expect a quiz on the reading.

Ch. 14

After a bit of analytical writing practice, we read chapter 14 aloud. We wrapped up the period by choosing a quotation from chapter 14 to write about. In 5th period, students actually wrote an exit ticket, which was collected. In 6th period, students selected their quotations and will write tomorrow.
