Chapter 2

Today we had a quick quiz on chapter 2, the students had 20 minutes or so to work on their DJs, and then we shared DJs before starting a bit of chapter 3.

The SOAPSTone

Today we worked through a model SOAPSTone on the poem "Rondeau" by Leigh Hunt. Students then had time to work on their own POL poems. For homework, they should read chapter 2 of Lord of the Flies w/ stickies.

After a quick reading quiz, students had much of the period to work on the DJ below. We wrapped up the period with a little mock election.

Poetry Out Loud and LOTF

Today we spent the day working on Poetry Out Loud poems in the lab. Students had time to find, print, and annotate poems. We wrapped up the period with a few pages of Lord of the Flies. Don't forget to finish chapter 1 for homework.

Lord of the Flies—Ch. 1

Today we started with a quick warm-up, got the book and started chapter 1. Students should finish chapter one, marking important parts (see below) with stickies, by Wednesday.

Reflection & POL

After finishing up and reflecting on the deserted island simulation we've been doing this week (see below), students had time to continue choosing their Poetry Out Loud poems. They should practice reading (and even memorizing) these over break.

Today we began the day thinking about societal priorities and the importance of government. Later, students got into groups and started an activity to prepare them for our next novel: Lord of the Flies.

Tone

Today we worked a bit with tone, reviewing the definition and practicing on a few passages. We'll do more of that tomorrow and present our narrative found poems.

Goals and Narrative Poems

Monday we began a bit of reflection, looking at our Q1 grades. Tuesday we began with some thinking about growth mindset and making goals for Q2. Students then had time to work on the found poetry assignment, which is at our PS Class Page.
