Today we discussed the PSAT which all sophomores will take on 3/14 for FREE. Students were given some information about the test and some practice material.

Art Analysis Focus
We open today with some more specific notes on art analysis (slides 19-24), then students practiced by analyzing art selected by their peers and submitted yesterday. Literature circle groups wrapped up with the character analysis sheet together.

The Graphic Novel and Khan Academy
Today we took a few notes about how to read a graphic novel and then students started in on theirs. We also took a tentative look at the Khan Academy grammar practice that we'll be doing on Fridays going forward. Finally, we wrapped up with a quick exit ticket.

Today literature circle groups met for the first time and practice group skills by quickly analyzing some children's books.

Divergent Paths
Today period 5 went to the excellent Black History month assembly and 6th period got some extra practice with our textual analysis frames, reading and discussing the story "The Sneetches" in groups.

Choosing Time
Today, after some general talk about graphic novels and the unit objective, we looked at each of the book options and students did a bit of persuasive writing to help me choose their books and groups. The book talk slide show is at Unified Classroom. Absent students should have a look at the options, do a bit of research (Amazon and Good Reads are good bets), and the email me the writing assignment below).
