Finishing TKM

Today we finished To Kill a Mockingbird and then students handed in their writer's notebooks on the way out the door.

Chapters 22-27

We began the day going over the questions from yesterday's class. Then we whipped through chapters 22 through 26 and started 27 aloud in class. Students should finish chapter 27 for HW.

Ch. 19

Today, after a quick quiz on Friday's reading, we read and wrote about chapter 19.

Khan Academy & Chapter 18

Today, after a quick quiz on chapter 17, students split time between Khan Academy and chapter 18. They should finish 18 for HW if they didn't finish in class.

Tuesday through Thursday

On Tuesday we opened with the DJ practice below and then read chapter 11 (questions below). 

Wednesday we summarized chapters 12-14 (students may read these and do DJs for extra credit) and then read chapter 15 together.

Thursday, we reviewed chapter 15, read chapter 16, and started chapter 17. Students should finish chapter 17 for HW, though they needn't do a DJ.

Chapter 10

After a quiz, some DJ sharing and some general analysis of chapter 9, we read most of chapter 9 out loud. Students should finish the chapter and their DJ for HW.

Khan & Lee

Thursday, students read chapter 8 and started their chapter 8 DJs. Today students split time between reading chapter 9 and doing their DJ and doing a bit of Khan Academy.

Chapter 7 (and some essay make-ups)

Chapter 6

After a bit of thinking about conflict, we read chapter 6 and students had plenty of time to work on their DJs. These are due tomorrow.

Chapter 5 DJ

On Friday, students worked on Khan Academy and read chapter 5. Today we spent ten minutes working on the chapter 5 DJ and then did some sharing.

Chapter 4

After thinking a bit about character, we read chapter four and started the DJ. Students should finish their DJ tonight.

Chapter 3

Chapter 2 & 3

Today we had a quick were-you-paying-attention quiz, then students had a chance to work on the chapter 2 DJ, and finally, we began chapter 3. Students should finish reading chapter 3 for HW.

Chapter 2

Today we had a few moments to work on chapter 1 DJs. After that, we shared DJs and then read much of chapter 2. Students should finish chapter two for homework.

DJs and Khan

After a short quiz on the final few pages of chapter 1, students split the period between Khan Academy and their chapter 1 dialectical journal.

Chelly & TKM

Today we spent most of the period talking about the SAT and ACT with Chelly from Gear Up. We spent a few moments at the end on historical background for To Kill a Mockingbird.
