Today we used our short period to review summary and practice character analysis.

S1 Reflection, the Final, & Summary Practice

After finishing up the reflection from yesterday, we reviewed the final exam, and then moved on to a look at summary.

Reflection & Goal Setting

Essays Due

Today students had much of the period to do their essay cover sheets and hand in their final drafts. Both assignments are at the top of our Unified Classroom page.

The Revision Checklist+

Students had more time to work on their essays today. Most students were ready to start their revision using the revision checklist. We will turn in final draft essays on Tuesday during class.

The Conclusion

After a short warm-up and some review slides, students had the period to finish the conclusion and their paper. Many students began the revision process. The checklist is at Unified Classroom and we will focus on this tomorrow.

The Body

Today, after reviewing the introduction students worked on in class and for homework, we went over writing body paragraphs. Slides and handouts are at Unified Classroom.

The Intro Paragraph

After reviewing plans from Friday, we looked at some tips for intro paragraphs and a model. Students have access to this slideshow and a handout that was passed out in class. Materials for this and the body paragraphs are at Unified Classroom. Students should finish their introductions tonight.

Essay Planning

We started the period with groups sharing thesis statements (aka claims) and posters. Then, after introducing the essay assignment, we students chose theme and wrote a claim. We wrapped up the period talking about essay planning. Students should start planning their essay over the weekend. Slides with models are available at Unified Classroom.

Chapter 12, Theme, & Symbol

Today we wrapped up our reading of Lord of the Flies with a final DJ and then started thinking about theme and symbol. The DJ prompts are below and the assignment groups did in class today is here.

Chapter 12

After finishing and discussing the DJ for chapter 11 (below), we started chapter 12. Students should finish this chapter, and the book, for HW.
